Evernote

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!!

I already had my blog posts planned for today, but after a recent new discovery, I had to share with everyone.

I am in love with Evernote.

I have no idea why I haven't used/discovered this before, but there is no turning back. It used to be that when I came across a good site for my blog, I would have to save it to favorites or go ahead and copy and paste a link into a draft blog post while figuring out what I wanted to say so that I would remember it.

Now, I just click the save to Evernote button and can come back when I have more time.

Its not just for websites, I can store pictures, notes, screenshots, just about anything I think of there for reference later.

Anyway, this is not a paid endorsement or anything, I just wanted to share with everyone my excitement over this new discovery.

Personal Blog

As a part of the re-purposing of this blog to a strictly fashion blog, I have decided to create a personal blog to share my day-to-day life at Nerdy Neuroscientist Amber which will go live today. Head over there to check out my personal life if you wish.

Blogging Re-purposed

You may notice a change in my blog and the post styles on it in the coming weeks. I have decided that it is more important to focus on one track in my blog, the one I am most excited about. I have enjoyed the fashion and beauty blogging while the recipes and science do not fit as easily into my main theme. Those posts will be going by the wayside to make room for more advanced posts on the topics I (and hopefully, you, the readers) feel insipired about. It took me a few months to feel out my inspiration and I am confident in my choices.

It is tough to let the others go by the side, but I know it is the right thing to do in order to refine my blog. My original mission covered "Great clothes, good science, and yummy food."

My new mission is "To inspire other fabulous women that, no matter their job or status in life, they can be fashionable on a reasonable budget." I may be a serious scientist, but blogging about fashion and beauty gives me a chance to let my less serious side show.

Let me know your thoughts on this, I hope to keep improving my blog for years to come.

Beginning Blogging

I have been blogging for a month now (so young in the grand scheme of blogging). Here are the things I have learned.

1. Have a post plan. I started out with a layout of what types of topics I wanted to post about each day, giving me a structure and a basis to start with.

2. Talk with other bloggers. They have been doing it awhile and they have advice on what is good and what is bad.

3. Building on that subject, the blogging community is (for the most part) a kind and gentle place. Comment on their posts and they will return the favors.

4. Blog as if you are talking to an audience. Aim your posts at your intended audience and you will eventually gain followers of your target audience.

5. However, blog for you not for anyone else. If you do it for you, you will be happy each time you blog. If you do it for others, it becomes a chore.

Well there you have it, my advice to new bloggers based on my experiences.

1 Week in Perspective

In honor of my 1 week blogging anniversary, I wanted to create a post that summed up just why I love blogging and to see if anyone else feels the same way!

1. As a recent graduate school graduate, I do not have tons of money. However, I have lots of desire for clothes. I often find myself "window shopping" websites, putting things in my cart, and then not buying them. Blogging lets me share with the world the things I would love to buy!

2. I also often have a strong reaction to a news story or event and no one around to share with. Blogging lets me share with whoever will listen!

3. Blogging lets me explore new websites that I would not normally find and make some great discoveries.

4. Finally, blogging lets me meet some great new friends!
